Does chrome plating have a better corrosion resistance than zinc plated parts?

Yes, Chrome plating will have a better corrosion resistance and will be generally better to use in marine environments than zinc.

Though it's better to use stainless steel instead of the chrome or zinc plating.

For example, the part MTHTLK-*C

MTHTLK

Has a better corrosion resistance than the zinc plated version.

Since this stud doesn't have a stainless steel version, it might be better to switch to the fixed wing head of the MTH-series:

MTHTLW

Such as MTHTLW-5S instead of MTHTLK-5C

The results will be pretty close to each other and the thickness of the plating will make the difference.

Below the layer of chrome there is a layer of copper and another layer of nickel which will give good salt spray test results.
