How to calculate your stud length for MTH series?
How to calculate your stud length for MTH series?
In order to calculate the stud length, first you'll need to select which receptacle you want to use.
Determine your Panel (P) and Frame (F) thickness, select which retaining washer you wish to use,
And lastly determine the proper stud length number when using receptacle:
Type receptacle A + C + E + F + G :
T = P + F => For type C: T = 9.9mm minimum
Type receptacle B:
T = P + F (F = 0.75mm minimum)
Type receptacle D:
T= P + X (X = 0.5mm minimum)
After you've calculated the correct stud length, you'll need to use the Stud length tables in the Turnlock catalogue.
Be careful that you select the correct stud length table according to the type of receptacle.
Then you just need to choose which stud you want, tool or hand operated, steel zinc plated or stainless steel, flush installed or not.
You need to be careful, if you want the assembly to be sealed, you need the gaskets:
MTHGIR and MTHGOR
However, this adds 0.75 to the Total thickness in the above formulas.
Example 1:
You have a panel thickness of 3.00 mm and a frame thickness of 1.50mm.
The receptacle you wish to use is the type A bronze with zinc plating receptacle MTHR25BZ and a wing headed steel zinc plated stud.
Retaining washer MTHWSS.
So the formula you need to use is T = P + F = 3.00 + 1.50 = 4.50
You'll need to look in the table that's used for type A receptacles.
The T value is equivalent to stud length number 5, which is used for Total thickness between 3.80 and 4.60
The part numbers of your assembly are then:
Stud = MTHTLW-5Z
Retaining washer = MTHWSS
Receptacle = MTHR25BZ
Example 2:
You have a panel thickness of 7.20 mm and a frame thickness of 4.50mm.
The receptacle you wish to use is the type B aluminium receptacle MTHRPM2HA and a Folding Ring handle stainless steel stud.
Retaining washer MTHWFS.
So the formula you need to use is T = P + F (0.75mm minimum) = 7.20 + 4.50 = 11.70
You'll need to look in the table that's used for type B receptacles.
The T value is equivalent to stud length number 16, which is used for Total thickness between 11.40-12.20
The part numbers of your assembly are then:
Stud = MTHTLFR-16S
Retaining washer = MTHWFS
Receptacle = MTHRPM2HA
Example 3:
You have a panel thickness of 3.00 mm and a frame thickness of 10.50mm.
The receptacle you wish to use is the type C stainless steel receptacle MTHRF25S and a stainless steel cross headed stud.
Retaining washer MTHWFS.
So the formula you need to use is T = P + F (T = 9.9mm minimumm) = 3.20 + 10.50 = 13.70
You'll need to look in the table that's used for type C receptacles.
The T value is equivalent to stud length number 6, which is used for Total thickness between 13.70 and 14.50
Note that if the T value is on the limit between two stud lengths, you need to take the longest stud length.
The part numbers of your assembly are then:
Stud = MTHTLC-6S
Retaining washer = MTHWFS
Receptacle = MTHRF25S
Example 4:
You have a panel thickness of 8.15 mm and a frame thickness of 8 mm.
The receptacle you wish to use is the type D zinc die casted receptacle MTHRTZZ and a slotted headed steel zinc plated stud.
Retaining washer MTHWFS.
So the formula you need to use is T = P + X (0.5mm minimum) = 8.15 + 0.50 = 8.65
You'll need to look in the table that's used for type D receptacles.
The T value is equivalent to stud length number 11, which is used for Total thickness between 8.40 and 9.15
The part numbers of your assembly are then:
Stud = MTHTLS-11Z
Retaining washer = MTHWFS
Receptacle = MTHRTZZ
Example 5:
You have a panel thickness of 3.00 mm and a frame thickness of 1.50mm.
The receptacle you wish to use is the type E stainless steel adjustable receptacle MTHRA24S and a stainless steel flush cross headed stud.
Retaining washer MTHWFTP.
So the formula you need to use is T = P + F = 3.00 + 1.50 = 4.50
You'll need to look in the table that's used for type E receptacles.
The T value is equivalent to stud length number 3, which is used for Total thickness between 4.32 and 9.65
The part numbers of your assembly are then:
Stud = MTHFTLC-3S
Retaining washer = MTHWFTP
Receptacle = MTHRA24S
